The following is a list of seminars attended by persons from the CFRPC. The Trust distributes many, many handouts at each seminar, which are available for inspection in our library, or may be checked out, or may be copied.

January 27, 1999

Commissioner Training: the basics of writing an preservation ordinance and appointing a preservation board

Held at Centro Asturiano de Tampa, Tampa, Florida

The Florida Preservation Commissions Assistance Program Seminar will discuss the following issues: the legal aspects of historic preservation, with an emphasis on Florida preservation law; the mechanics of serving on a commission; running effective commission meetings and administering a local historic preservation program; special issues associated with design and architectural review and the mechanics of operating a design review program; and the importance of communicating a commission's work and purpose to the public. This exciting new series of programs will be of value to elected officials, including those that serve on a city/county commission, preservation boards, foundation members, architectural review commission, planners, and local preservation organizations staff and volunteers.

    Historic Landscapes: Streetscapes & Gardens

    Held at Terrace Hotel, Lakeland, and Bok Tower Gardnes, Lake Wales

    Presented by the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation

    This workshop focused on how the process of researching and restoring historic landscapes revitalize and educate the public about a community’s history. The Mirror Lake Promenade, a model streetscape , frames Lakeland’s historic downtown and has played a large part in the revitalization of this area. Bok Tower Gardens is nationally renowned for its historic landscape. The professional staff of Bok Tower Gardens will share how they continue the restorative process while opening the gardens to the public.
