This update ensures our community is prepared for the future while preserving what makes us unique. Florida law requires every city and county to update its comprehensive plan regularly to reflect community needs.

The Central Florida Regional Planning Council is working with DeSoto County, community partners and stakeholders and residents to update DeSoto County’s Comprehensive Plan to the 2050 Planning Horizon. The update provides the opportunity to take an overall look at the plan and how it may be refined to address community-specific opportunities and challenges.

The purpose of the Plan update is to:
Identify major issues which are specific concerns related to the current and future growth and development of the County
Assess the degree to which plan objectives have been completed.
Assess both the success and shortcomings of the plan.
Identify ways the plans should be changed by responding to changing conditions and trends, the need for new data and changes in state requirements and regional plans.
Ensure effective intergovernmental coordination.
